If I take up membership, am I guaranteed a place in the NSW Selective School of my choice?

We have provided a tool to help you prepare for the NSW Selective School examination for entry into Year 7. We hope that you will appreciate all the site has to offer and use it to give yourself an advantage when taking the real examinations. How you perform is totally up to you. We sincerely have tried to make the journey easier and more fun for you, and hopefully you will be able to achieve your dreams by using this tool.

The Sample Test questions seem difficult. Will the tests be too tough for my child?

Understandably, your child will find the content difficult to begin with since most questions are deliberately designed to be challenging for students in year 5. Your assistance and patience in explaining the solutions and correct answers to him is essential to begin with, however, you may find that, with time, he/she makes significant improvement.

When should I sign up?

Given the competitiveness of the entrance examination, students often begin preparation 1 to 2 years in advance. For the selective school test, most students begin sometime during grade 4 to early grade 5.

Do I always need to connect to the site from my home computer?

This is one of the big benefits of being a member. You can practise even when on holiday!! (maybe not such a big benefit after all, but I'm sure all you parents out there appreciate it!). All you need is an internet connection, and you are in business! After all, when you are forced to go out to a grown-ups get-together with your parents, rather than listen to boring grown-ups chatter, what better way to spend your time than take exciting tests?

How do the Timed Score tests work?

If a test is allocated a time, for example, mathematics typically is allocated 40 minutes, then the test must be finished within this available time. So, if you start the test at 7:15 PM, the number of questions correctly answered by 7:55 PM will be the score you achieve. There are no bonus points for completing the test earlier than the allocated time, so make sure you carefully answer all questions. If a particular question seems a little difficult for you to answer, mark the question for review - you can always come back to it later. Scores achieved from timed tests are important and will be stored in our database so you can monitor your progress over time as well as compare your performance with other members.

What happens if, while taking a test, I lose my connection to the internet?

Do not worry, the site remembers what you were working on, and when you log back in, you can resume the test where you left off. Do remember that Timed Score tests need to be finished in the allocated time, so try to resume the test immediately!

What is the difference between "Practice" and "Timed Score" Mode?

Tests can be taken in two modes - Practice and Timed Score. In Practice Mode, students are allowed to practice questions picked randomly from the entire database of questions. Only the result or score obtained for the last test is retained - there is no time limit to taking the test - scores are not used to compare performance between students - only the last unfinished test is available for completion if the student so desires. In Timed Score tests, - pre-built tests are to be taken. - questions within a pre-built test are served in random order - tests are timed as in the real world - scores are computed based on number of questions correctly answered in the allocated time - scores are used in comparison of performance between students - all unfinished tests are available to be completed, if the allocated time has not yet elapsed.

Why is my level Deck Hand?

All student members take part in a Scoring System. You earn 0, 1, or 2 point(s) for every test question you answer correctly during a Timed Test. As your Total Score increases, you move up the hierarchy of levels.
